You ought not leave the pavement if you haven't tow hooks front and rear.
The tow hitch should be rated to at least double the weight of your XJ,
which means you need a Class 3 hitch.

In the 1.5ish years I've owned it, I've had it off road 4 or 5 times.
2 of those were TDS Safaris out by the Salton sea. Gorman / Hidden
Valley is LOTS closer and just as fun (IMHO) ;-)

AFAIK, it IS a class three hitch, but I'm really only basing that
ASSumption on the size of the receptical...
