Do the Calif. smog ***** check this out when they perform a smog check? I don't
want to not pass just because I removed a worthless piece of plastic.

Measure the diameter of your throttle body bore, then measure the
diameter of the ventura in the intake - you'll find that the intake
ventura is substantially larger than the throttle body bore. Unless
aerodynamics has changed since I last took the course that ventura
cannot affect the air flow to the intake manifold. It actually works
simply because of the compression/expansion of the stream flow with no
effect on the mass flow rate.
Wish I owned patents on snake oil...

It's not a worthless piece of plastic, and it is not something to "detune"
the 4.0. It is a venturi that's part of the vapor recovery canister purging
system. I took mine out many years ago and have not had any problems with
it, but neither have I seen any gains in mileage from it either.
