97 (96?) and newer Explorer and Mercury Mountaineers are good sources of the
stronger 31 spline with disk brake versions.

No V8s, the Explorer is based on the Ranger truckette. The axle is
narrower than yours, that's why they had such a problem rolling over
with a flat tire.
