conclusive answer?? ticking
Just wondering why engines 'tick' after shutting off? I never noticed a lot
of ticking before the rebuild, and notice it more now...perhaps because I am
listening more intently. Anyway, what is the cause of this phenomenon?

Sounds like a heat shield cooling? Im not sure what you mean ticking after
its off.

Metal shrinks as it cools, parts like exhaust hangers shuffle and the whole
vehicle will make popping noises as it cools down.

Likely time to retorque the intake and exhaust manifolds Jo.
If 'slightly' loose, they will make a ticking noise when cooling down.
On a long head like the 258's sometimes more than one retorque is
needed.

Probably 'not' your imagination.
You did have an umm... overheating issue when all the oil blew out.
That can be enough to cause the bolts on the manifolds to come
'slightly' loose.
It only takes a couple minutes anyway. Worth doing.
