740? That doesn't make sense, I think it should be a two-digit code on
that year Jeep.

According to my research code 740 means the engine thinks it is running
too fast for the speed.
will it hurt the vehicle to leave a 740 code alone until the
transmission get worse. my milage has not changed (still 17 to 18
mpg). acceleration appears upaffected. in other words the vehicle
seems to run the same except for the check engine light.
by the way the vehicle has about 160,000 miles on it.
