The running water should scrub the top as clean as any Jeep ever
needs to be.
Or gentle soap and water. Problem with softtops is that the soap that
works best for cleaning the top will also remove wax from the body.
If it stained from the mud, you'd need to know what it was in the
mud that stained it... ochre, peat, red clay, iron, all have their
own colors and some stain pretty darn permanently.

Just a little Note: One of those big old pink erasers will remove
wax from the soft-top material, might work with mud.
