You are probably better off in a Ryder with one of their aluminum
car hualers. Better equipment, less hassle, very safe and
reliable haul. But they do require that you rent the truck and
trailer as a package.

I haven't seen a rental truck with adequate tiedowns, yet. There might be
one. I had to use a uhaul to haul my bike after a wreck, i drilled 3 holes
in the deck, installed eye bolts, and when done, removed them and plugged
the holes. The bike weighs a lot less than a Jeep.
We had a full sized car hauled on an open car hauler from Boston to San
Diego for $800 by www.caronatruck.com , it toook 3 months, but it was in the
worst part of winter during some big storms.
