Re: CJ-7 Spring Over

First off you should be aware of what all that involves:.
Spring perches
u-bolts
shock mounts
shocks
brake lines
e-brake cables
drive shaft length
pinion angle
belly pan spacers
sway bar disconnects
pitman arm
welding/cutting

and about $700
I went ahead and did spring bushings also.
Maybe you are already aware of this list, but let's start here...

CJ-7 Spring Over

I'm getting ready to do a spring-over on my CJ-7. I'd like to hear
about any lessons that you could share. I would appreciate it.

Hi Tony,
Only if you can't get the height for your humongous tires any other
way. The axles on the short leaf side will wrap likes there's no
tomorrow, you'll need strong traction bars to keep it from bouncing like
a TJ.

Re: CJ-7 Spring Over

Tony ; listen to bill. A friend of mine did one on a 84'' CJ and he is kind
of wishing that he hadn't now. He has broken the front and rear pinion
yokes. and now he's try to make a anti wrap bar and having a hard time with
it. I'm not saying that it's all bad ,but it is work , and in my book his
84 cj-7 flex's about 1" more then mine with a 4" spring kit. If I was to
open up the clamp's around my my spring's I could probably beat that. So in
case you haven't though it over real good you might want to. Good Luck!!!

Jimmie; 86" CJ-7 to many mod's to list and not even close to being done.

Hey fellers, I don't have a wrap problem. The SOA was a great mod for my
Jeep. I used the CJ springs with what I belive is an add-a-leaf. I also
used the Rubicon Express anti-wrap perches.

Re: CJ-7 Spring Over

Rubicon Express anti-wrap perches are a little longer, but not
enough to fix the problem:
http://www.mesa4x4.com/project_cj7/i...ing_perch.html
Clamp the spring packs together in two places rear of the axles, may
help a little, other wise it must work like this suspension:

Re: CJ-7 Spring Over

1. Do any other swaps (tranny, T/C, etc) that you have planned at the same
time. Cause you're probably gonna have to have your drivshafts re-done. I
had to have both of mine re-done, and now I'm doing a tub swap with tranny
swap (TF727) and I'm afraid I might have to have my rear driveshaft
shortened about back to where it was originally because of the added length
in my new tranny.

2. You don't HAVE to buy the expensive extended braided steel brake lines.

3. Cheap and easy extended front shock mounts

Re: CJ-7 Spring Over

Bill, I've got REALLY stiff aftermarket springs, BDS I think, so I hope
that wrap won't be as bad as stock.

Thanks, T
