Cherokee change in 2000?
 

A friend of mine told me that there was some sort of change to the XJ engine
in '00, something to do with the emmisions system. Is this the case, and if
so what are the implications / is it something to be concerned about?
Looking at an '01 auto with 102k miles. Thanks

They went to distributer-less coil on plug, and there were changes to
the intake manifold (smoother bends) to restore the power they lost to
emissions detuning. The injectors are different also. If you are
replacing an older motor you can still use your old distributer and
coil, but you may need to splice in the injectors plugs and sensors.
Have you considered a 4.5 L stroker?

They went to distributer-less coil on plug, and there were changes to
the intake manifold (smoother bends) to restore the power they lost to
emissions detuning. The injectors are different also. If you are
replacing an older motor you can still use your old distributer and
coil, but you may need to splice in the injectors plugs and sensors.
Have you considered a 4.5 L stroker?

The only other change was in the front axle. It was previously a high-pinon
Dana 30, starting in 2000 it was a low-pinon Dana 30. If you don't know the
difference, it probably won't matter.

The only other change was in the front axle. It was previously a high-pinon
Dana 30, starting in 2000 it was a low-pinon Dana 30. If you don't know the
difference, it probably won't matter.

as strong as the high pinion D30. Are there other implications as well?
How much difference is there? Not that it really matters, this is going to
be a daily driver / Family vehicle.

I don't belive the LP Dana 30 is any weaker than the HP Dana 30. The only
difference is the pinion is lower, making it easier to damage or get caught
off road. It also increases the front driveline angle. None of this is an
issue if it's a family driver that won't be lifted or wheeled.

I dont know about all the changes, however I have a 2000 Sport 4L
105,000 miles the only issues I had were:

Power window motor,drivers door (Warranty)
DDM ($144)
No motor problems whatsoever.
