I just go to a good local (non midas) shop and have them slap a high-flow
cat in. about 100$ (possibly more now, but should be close)
Aftermarket cats last about five years.

I checked a couple of local shops and they wanted over $220! I ended up
buying a direct fit replacement Magnaflow on ebay for $94 shipped.

Is that $220 installed and with some sort of guarantee? I like the OEM
converter that is on my Jeep right now, because it has lasted twelve years.
Let's just say for the sake of argument that that Magnaflow is going to last
five years, as Doug says. The math comes out slightly in favor of an OEM
converter for $220, not counting the PITA factor of replacing it twice, and
assuming that you can get one for that.
