can someone offer a headsup?
I have a rythmic "took took took" sound in the frontend when it's free
wheeling (sound speeds up as the Jeep speeds up), put it into 4wd and the
sound is gone...I'm going to look at it tomorrow, but can someone offer me a
headsup as to what I might be looking at?
89YJ
stock setup.
thanks a bunch!

Re: can someone offer a headsup?
That is usually a front axle u-joint fast going bad. It flops with no
load on it.

Re: can someone offer a headsup?
Maybe your vacuum shifter on the front end isn't pulling all the way to
the right and the splines are catching on the inner axle.

Re: can someone offer a headsup?
Possibly a bad u-joint in the front driveshaft, or maybe a bad hub.
Shifting into 4wd just sends torque through the driveshaft to the hubs
which takes out the slack which quiets things up. Neither are that
expensive to repair, if of of them is the problem.
