Let us know how that spring-over turns out. That could be my next mod.
I've shyed away from it so far, thinking it will screw up the suspension too
much for on-road travel.

I've been pleased with the MPB kit too. Remember, those are some big ol'
tires you gotta stop. Can't expect to stop instantly.

About your front D44 front, did you get a CV or non-CV set up? If CV and
the mid-section is pointed towards the t-case, I wouldn't think the angle
would be too awfully severe for the longer driveshaft in the front. Hey
man, my new D60 front should be here in a week or two. The waiting is
killing me! I was hoping to get it installed before deer rifle season, but
it doesn't look like that will happen now - I won't be missing opening day.

Good luck.

Terry.

Re: Cal's YJ: First ride!

FWIW, I also have a low pinion Dynatrac D44 in the front of my '94 YJ. It
took a double-cardan CV at the Atlas II t-case to eliminate driveline
vibration & noise in 4wd Hi. However, it's now smooth as butter at nearly
any speed, better than the stock D30. I got the driveshaft from Hi-Angle
Driveline, very well made unit.

Re: Cal's YJ: First ride!

I'm curious as to why you didn't go with the reverse 44, it's
stronger when used as a front axle, and seeing you're paying top dollar,
it's not like you found a hundred dollar Scout Dana 44. And your YJ
should have come with a reverse 30 and constant velocity joint, but
probably too small to use with the 44.

Re: Cal's YJ: First ride!

Well, that's a long story! I installed these axles about 6 months before all
the first trick reverse pinion custom center sections came on the market.
Although I ordered reverse pinion axles from the shop who did the
installation, they've admitted they messed up the order with Dynatrac by not
specifying reverse in writing and the story goes from there. I didn't make a
big fuss over the whole deal, the shop and Dynatrac discounted the axles
significantly and in the end they're stout as hell and work great. If I
wanted more than the actual 5.5" lift that's on there they might be a
problem, but any more than this and I can't get the YJ it in the garage.

Initially we shortened and reused the original front driveshaft which worked
fine with the NP231. Then I installed a RE 4.5" lift, which uses 5"
shackles. These screwed up the pinion angle along with the caster. Then we
installed the Atlas II and had to shorten the front driveshaft even more.
The angles involved weren't all that extreme, but the yokes weren't aligned
well and it tended to set up an internal rattling in the Atlas in 4wd hi at
certain road speeds. I had the caster checked at my local alignment shop and
installed 2 degree steel shims in front to get it in spec. Then we installed
the CV front driveshaft and a new yoke on the Atlas. Voila, works like a
champ.

Hi Gerald,
Just so you know, the reverse 44 isn't a trick new thing like the
reverse 9" (8.8), it's stock on my '78 Bronco:
