In defrost mode the AC also runs even if the little lamp
doesn't turn on. Heat drives away the humidity and the
AC turns the humidity into water so it can drain out of the
cab.

Just so we all understand the solenoid is being energized even when the
ignition is off. That is the cause of the run down battery.
