Busted window on my XJ

Hi folks,

I'm very much a non-expert on all things Jeep (the horror, I know) and
a 21-year old girl, so please be kind as I ask this dumb question!

My 98 XJ Sport got broken into yesterday - they broke the front
passenger side window completely out, stole the radio, and busted off
the rearview mirror. I can definitely fix the mirror and radio myself
(will have to check it out to see if I can just pop the front panel
back on, but I was hoping you fine people would be able to tell me what
to expect in going somewhere to get my window replaced.

How much is it reasonable to expect it to cost? Are there any specific
questions I should ask? Basically, what does a not-great-with-cars girl
need to know when taking her car in to get the automatic window
replaced?

Thanks a ton,
Ashley

Your insurance should cover it, if not you should consider changing
your policy to add coverage. Many companies will cover glass breakage
with no deductable.

Check to see if you have comprehensive on your insurance policy. Most
glass replacement is done with no deductable.

Replacing a power window is about the same as a manual window. You need
to disassemble the inner door panel for access. About 15 minutes. The
new (or used) window comes with the lower track, just bolts in.

Re: Busted window on my XJ

That being said replacing the glass is a straightforward operation.

You can buy the glass new or from a junk yard.

DOOR GLASS

REMOVAL

(1) Remove the door trim panel.

(2) Remove the waterdam.

(3) Remove inner and outer belt weatherstrip.

(4) Roll glass up to expose the bolts attaching the

glass to the regulator.

(5) Remove the bolts attaching the glass to the

regulator (Fig. 2).

(6) Lift the glass upward and out of the door.

INSTALLATION

(1) Position the glass in the door.

(2) Install the bolts attaching the glass to the regulator

Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (36 in-lbs) torque.

(3) Install inner and outer belt weatherstrip.

(4) Attach the door waterdam to the door inner

panel with adhesive/sealant.

(5) Install the waterdam.

(6) Install the door trim panel.
