Re: blown engine... rebuild or replace?
the most important if you decided to go for a used one, have a compression
test done.
a friend of mine just bought a 5,000 CAN Audi S4 Engine with 3 blown valve
and a warp head....
Costy is the answer..... !!! and no refund since the Engine as not been
install in an S4 car and blah blah blah....
My 2 cents is No Compression reading don't buy....

I was up shooting in the hills, up the logging roads from my house in
oregon, and had the radio of my TJ on all afternoon turned up fairly loud to
penetrate my plugs and muffs. I killed my battery. Luckily my cell phone
works up there and I called my wife and told her I needed rescueing. I had
about $6k in guns with me and did not want to leave them and my Jeep up
there for obvious reasons <g>. She wanted to take our Volvo but I insisted
she take our beater truck, an '86 Nissan 4x4 in case the Jeep needed
pull-starting. So she packs the kids in the truck with her and starts
heading through the countryside toward the logging roads. About 10 miles
from our house the head gasket lets go... she turns around and drives it
back, steaming and smoking and knocking, and makes it to the nearest small
town near our property. In the meantime, a crazy drunk old coot in an old
pickup comes blubbing along the logging road in the dark. I tell him my
wife is on the way, he doesn't need to worry, but he insists on staying till
she gets there and then on pull-starting the Jeep. Well, than God for him
cause she never did get there and it was getting COLD <g>! So then I drove
down, thinking I'd hook up with them, but never saw them coming up. My cell
rings. It's her, telling me now THEY are stranded and she's gonna call a
tow truck to come get me.... i tell her that I'm mobile again and now I can
rescue THEM. When I get there I start the truck up and I can tell the
engine is ----ed. So they transfer to the Jeep, I transfer all the guns and
targets and clays and chronograph and ammo to the truck, and I drive the
poor thing the last couple miles home; nothing to lose. By the time Iget
home I can hardly see with all the steam but the rad cap is cool.
So I need an engine. Enough detail this time <g>?

Wow, I'm glad I asked for more information before offering up some lengthy
JEEP RELATED diatribe. About now I'd normally say wrong newsgroup but since
you went to the trouble of typing all that out, I will offer my opinion.
It's an 86' Nissan, unless you lost your virginity in that truck, you
purposed to your wife in that truck, your children were conceived AND
delivered in that truck or have some other sentimental reason for putting
money into it, I'd say put it out to pasture. On the other hand, if it's a
solid truck and you're doing the work yourself, get and engine from the
wrecker and get busy.
I have to go now - I ran out of comma's.
