BILLY postings - via anon remailer
learn something every day on the Interne.
The person posting the BILLY messages
is using a service in Amsterdam -
http://www.dizum.com
that basically has an email --> newsgroup gateway,
and also then has an anonymous posting facility...
So, you can send emails and they get posted to the newsgroup.
Also - if you visit the Amsterdam site,
they basically say.... yup, that's what we're here for,
to post anything anywhere - and don't complain about it,
because we don't care...not our problem.

Within limits. There have been calls for UDP (Usenet Death Penalty)
for certain abusive hosts. Basically that's where news admins drop
that path from the feeds they accept.
There has also been the occasional posting barrage through their
service into local news groups. Just to prove the point that abuse
isn't as funny when it's happening to them.
Much like I do here with hamster. My news spool, my rules. :)
#block anonymizing services
?-999 path "nym.alias.net"
?-999 nntp-posting-host "x-privat.org"
etc...

Just killfile the entire domain... If a person isn't willing to associate
their name with their post, they're not worth listening to anyway...

Lol!
Ya like it, huh? There's about 40 different remailers, all over the globe,
that work together. Your message gets chained through them and uses "nested
encrypted" to each remailer in the chain. The first remailer unencrypts the
message with it's key, strips any identifiable info and can only see the
address of the next remailer, which in turn does the same and so on for all
the remailers in your chain, until the last remailer unencrypts the
plaintext message and either posts it, or sends it to a mail2news gateway.
Thats just a quick explanation, there are additional safety features, like
reordering, message pools, and latency that defeat traffic analysis and
make it extremely anonymous. The last remailer really has no way to know
where the message originated from, so it's not like they don't care about
abuse, they just can't do anything about it.
Most NSP's would not consider this abuse. Flame wars and trolling are
common things in usenet. If I sent thousands of messages a day in a big
flood, that would be considered abuse. Like the ole' saying goes, If you
can't stand the heat, ---- you then. Or something like that.
