No, peanut oil has lots of uses and peanut butter just happens to be a
convenient, multi-purpose packaging for it. Someone in the group
responded to a suggestion of using peanut butter as 'squirrel bait' a
while back, so caution might be in order...

I know that my Black Lab will go to great lengths to get to anything
that has a hint of peanut butter on it - the kids used to tease him by
putting a dab on top of his nose to see the contortions he went thru
trying to lick it off and he learned as a puppy not to gulp it when it
got stuck to the roof of his mouth.

I've used peanut oil on leather, rubber, and plastic. It's not really
that good for plastic as it doesn't penetrate and gets sticky or gummy
on the surface but leather is so-so and it does pretty well on rubber
where the oil can penetrate. I hadn't seen the Philadelphia stories
in a long time - thanks for the reference - but those I classify as
"urban legend" for the most part.
