BFG all terrains
 

i have a set of BFG all terrains with ~45k miles in them and plenty of
tread. two of the tires have several (20+) 'cracks in the sidewall
where it meets the tread. the cracks radiate from the center and the
largest one is about 3" long. Anybody else have this problem with
BFG's?? they've held up GREAT otherwise.

Hi Brian,
I've gone though three sets of BF Goodrich ATs at about fifty
thousand each and never experience that. I have on the same style
Goodyears, and Firestone, the tread separation you're describing and is
what killed many Ford Explorer drivers. So I'd exchange them.

Hi Brian,

Hey, I had that experience with a set of Bridgestone Motorcycle tire. I had
full tread and only about 3,000 miles on them over a two year period. The
bike was outside under and awning.

!!!Stealerships first question. What do you use on your tires? Armorall,
etc? Yes, was my reply. The tire dressings that are promoted actually dry
your tires out and drastically reduce their life. I have never ever used
anything, but the car wash soap with a brush on any of my tires from then
on. It's been ten+ years since that experience.

etc? Yes, was my reply. The tire dressings that are promoted actually dry

This is so true. Someone told me that products like Armour All condition
your rubber/vinyl to actually need their product or it looks aweful and you
keep applying it. Those products definitely turn your tires brown and
you'll see tiny dry-rot cracks in the sidewall.

I've had reasonable luck over the years with clear floor
wax on tires. And over the past 5 or so, there is a
reddish purple goo that smells like bubble gum and is
a PITA to apply that seems to work reasonably well
without causing a dry appearance as it wears off.

Mud seems to have kept mine from cracking. :)
