I'd be talking to my insurance company. All depends on what your coverage is.
Time to get a lawyer and to make sure the Police and DA are going to
press charges for grand larceny. I'd call the police that made the
arrest and go from there.

Re: UPDATE
Junkyard already? Usually your insurance company will want to look at it
to see if it is in their best interest to fix or have it totaled. That is
the insurance company / owners call, and not some tow truck driver.
Call the police that made the arrest, they hate these scum as bad as you do.
The officer will be on your side 100%. They can give you advice on your
best steps to get compensation, and what you can do to punish the scum.
Hate to see people get hurt, but in a case like his I see it as mother
nature taking care of the dumb ones. I hope it is more than a bump on the
head. Dirt bags

Re: UPDATE
King County, WA? Move, like I did. (And I don't mean, move to Pierce
County!)
I don't know the state laws that apply, but it may be in your best interest
to wait for the disposition of the criminal case, or you may be better off
suing at the same time. This is for a lawyer versed in the local laws to
figure out. With stolen property, possibly felonies committed, you may
qualify for punitive damages.
On the other hand, pursuing a civil case is extremely stressful, even if you
use a lawyer as intermediary. What year is your XJ, and what was its real
value? If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble and annoyance, forget
about it, and take whatever restitution the criminal court decides to give
you.

What year is your XJ, and what was its real
value? If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble and annoyance, forget
about it, and take whatever restitution the criminal court decides to give
you.
