Arg...

My XJ got stolen last night! They are stealing cars and chopping them around
here. In a few days, they will probably find a shell of my Jeep somewhere,
stirpped to the uni-body. :-( I wish people would just leave my stuff alone!

Re: Arg...

Post up pictures and a description. Also post it up in the stolen section
of pirate4x4.com and on the http://www.naxja.org/forum/ site. I hate the
idea of some worthless scum taking what another has worked on for years to
obtain. The local 4x4 club has helped recover a few stolen rigs this year
alone, some partially dismantled, and others un touched.

It's the red one. It is a red 1991 Cherokee Laredo, 4 door with grey trim.
3.5" Rubicon Express lift, 31" BFG all terrain TA's. The serpentine belt is
loose and squeaks, and there is a tapping from the fan area at idle. It's
got a big spiderwebbed crack in the windshield on the passenger's side.
Automatic, 6cyl. It is much loved and even more missed.

UPDATE

They found my Jeep, it was involved in a high speed pursuit. The driver
crashed it into a telephone pole, totaling the car. All three suspects were
injurted an apprehended. The tow company charged me $300 for impound fees
and to take the truck to the junkyard. What a freaking ripoff.

How do I go about sueing these jerks for the loss of my vehicle, and all the
expenses that go with it?

Other than selling their body parts for science? :]

I'd be talking to my insurance company. All depends on what your coverage is.

Time to get a lawyer and to make sure the Police and DA are going to
press charges for grand larceny. I'd call the police that made the
arrest and go from there.

Junkyard already? Usually your insurance company will want to look at it
to see if it is in their best interest to fix or have it totaled. That is
the insurance company / owners call, and not some tow truck driver.
Call the police that made the arrest, they hate these scum as bad as you do.
The officer will be on your side 100%. They can give you advice on your
best steps to get compensation, and what you can do to punish the scum.
Hate to see people get hurt, but in a case like his I see it as mother

King County, WA? Move, like I did. (And I don't mean, move to Pierce
County!)

I don't know the state laws that apply, but it may be in your best interest
to wait for the disposition of the criminal case, or you may be better off
suing at the same time. This is for a lawyer versed in the local laws to
figure out. With stolen property, possibly felonies committed, you may
qualify for punitive damages.

On the other hand, pursuing a civil case is extremely stressful, even if you
use a lawyer as intermediary. What year is your XJ, and what was its real
value? If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble and annoyance, forget
about it, and take whatever restitution the criminal court decides to give
you.

qualify for punitive damages.

On the other hand, pursuing a civil case is extremely stressful, even if you
use a lawyer as intermediary. What year is your XJ, and what was its real
value? If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble and annoyance, forget
about it, and take whatever restitution the criminal court decides to give
you.

Oh Carl, that sucks!
I hope it is well insured, but that still doesn't take the pain away of
losing your Jeep.
Your insurance company should cover anything except your deductible.

When they go to court, request court ordered restitution. It can be ordered,
but you will still play hell collecting though.

It's strange that that sort of thing is happening in your area.
Was it kids or part of the group that is stripping the vehicles out?

Dunno where you are, but a few club members I know have found theirs by driving
around checking back lots and alleys. Granted their rigs were pretty well stripped

Find out if they, or anyone responsible for them, has any money. Then
hire the slimiest lawyer you can find. Alternatively, you might check
around for folks named Guido or similar, specializing in application of
baseball bats to appropriate kneecaps.
