another question
y'all might remember my post about the blower motor / control console.
I finally had a nice day, that I wasn't working, and was able to open
everything up. Now, I'm not mechanically inclined, and I checked for
the ground wire post from someone....where abouts is it?? the only
ground I see is the one going to my stereo. If I had batteries for my
camera, I would have taken pics to help you all point it out to me, so
if anyone can guide me, or I can hope it'll be another nice day
tomorrow, and will have some pics then. thanks

Re: another question
It is on the back of the dash.
I found the recall notice thanks to George in another group. The recall
is for Jeeps made in 98 I think, but the same fix sounds like what you
are needing and if you make enough noise, well... a recall is a free
fix....
Recall 99V117000: Instrument Panel Ground Screws Loose
The left side and right side instrument panel wiring ground attachment
screws could loosen over time. If the left side screw loosens, the
instrument panel gauges may not function when the headlamps are turned
on. If the right side screw loosens, the defroster blower motor may
not function.
Dealers will remove the ground screws, drill a new pilot hole adjacent
to the original hole, and the screws will be reinstalled in the new
holes.
Owner notification began May 31, 1999. Owners who take their vehicles
to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not
receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact
Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997. Also contact the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT
(1-888-327-4236).

Re: another question
Thanks for the info Mike, but my TJ is a 2000, and I've Googled the
recall number...would I still be able to take advantage of this?
Plus, If I'm off of warranty...how does that work? Thirdly, I bought
my TJ via a private sale, so the local dealer does not have a record
of as the owner.

Re: another question
If something is a bad design for one year, you can pretty much bet that
same bad part found it's way into other later years.
A recall is a recall. You can call up DC's 800 number and register
yourself as the owner so those things will be sent to you.
Our 88 had a recall for the O2 sensor I had done in 99 or so.
Going into a dealer armed with the recall for the 98's and having the
exact same trouble, should be good enough to get a free fix, depends on
the $tealer I guess.
You can at least use a multimeter on the existing switch to see if it
switches by using the ohms or continuity test.

same bad part found it's way into other later years.

If something is a bad design for one year, you can pretty much bet that
same bad part found it's way into other later years.
