JB weld. Leave some clearance to allow the goop to properly wet both
inner and outer surfaces.

Fine a friend with a tape and die set, fine a bass tube fitting
close to the size, tape the ball, drill and tape the hole, and screw it
on like it was a hurst, designed to break your arm.

I would have to say JB weld also, or find you a good machine shop and have a
threaded insert made or just get them to make you a new shift **** to fit.
Here is the one I had made for mine.
