'97 wrangler ignition switch?
I have a '97 wrangler that I believe is having some ignition switch
problems. This afternoon, after starting, the radio, fan motor, turn
signals, would not operate, and the brake light stayed on. The jeep
otherwise ran/drove fine. After restarting a little later, it had the same
problems as described above, but after a couple minutes, everything returned
to normal. Fan worked, turn signals worked, radio played, brake light (on
instrument cluster)went out. My son thinks he may have moved the key a
little when everything started working again, so I'm leaning toward the
ignition switch being the problem. The key on-key off method revealed error
code 42 (open condition detected in the asd relay output circuit), but no
codes revealed by a drb2 scan tool. Am I right to think this may be the
ignition switch, or should I consider some relay? The jeep hadn't been
started prior for several days, and we had the lowest temp of the season the
other night (20 degrees.), and I suspect that the temp may have had
something to do with the switch, after starting, maybe not returning
completely to the normal 'run' position. Thanks for any help!

The relay is a cheap fix $9 or less. I keep a spare.
Check the dash connector. There is a know problem for the Wrangler where
the pins fail to get a good connection and all things go basically nuts.
The cheap solution is to undo the connector and give each pin a slight tweak
i.e. from - to \ but not that far :) Then clean and reassemble the connector.
Till then you can use brogan maintenance.
