97 Wrangler Hardtop Storage Issues
I have some room in my backyard (with a tarp cover to protect it from
the weather) to store my hardtop with the topside against the ground (essentially upside down). I have looked through forums and no one seems to mention this option. Is it because people do not have the room or is it because there is a possibility of damaging the top by storing it this way? I have looked through the options of the pulley systems, but this will be absolutely free. Should I consider storing it in the backyard with a cover? |
Re: 97 Wrangler Hardtop Storage Issues
Right side up, on a wooden platform isn't so bad. You want to give the top
the proper support, which it won't get if stored upside down. The wooden platform I use has a lip, which keeps the sides from ------ing. Unless a cover is made to fit well, or it is tensioned with a couple dozen bungee straps, the wind will eventually loosen it. Around here they store boats for the winter in shrink wrap. Re: 97 Wrangler Hardtop Storage Issues
I certainly wouldn't reccomend storing it that way. All the weight is on
the front edge, tends to warp it up. It should be supported on the lower edge (2x4 in the middle) with a rope or cord to keep the front edge from lifting in a wind storm. I have stored my hardtops on plywood for the past 10 years with no
proublems. I would never store it on it's roof side. I think it could cave in the middle or ------ the sides out more. Later Mike |

I like your idea. I have for years thought of building something like
that but just never have. I do like. Later Mike |

The top rests on the rear corners in a curved, carpeted cradle. The rear window is between the cradle so no weight is on that. The cradle frame has casters so I can roll it around the garage. Storing vertically avoids the stress problems people have been mentioning above in this thread and it takes minimal space. Sorry don't have any pictures right now, top is still on the jeep for the winter, I hope my explanation is clear enough |
