96 cherokee tranny problem........why is the 96 the only year with problems
New to the news group....checked out the threads but didn't see any help...
I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee w/ 113000miles. I drive 111miles a day. I
recently took my
vehicle in to a jeep dealership for a state inspection and left with a
coolant leak....hmmm! It only leaked after I stopped and turned the vehicle
off.. So I'm driving on the trip back home (55 mile leg) and it starts
leaking again while I'm driving so I pull into another jeep dealership and
we found the leak...cool. Well I leave that dealership, hit the gas into
traffic with a need for speed...now normally I get tons of power when I need
it. This time though, when it shifts into second gear it loses power...no
pickup at all. SO there is a problem with second gear I think??? Well
I'm driving back last night, there isn't any traffic so I do a bit of
trouble shooting. I come to a stop and put the jeep in park. then I shift
into 1-2 (auto shifter has park, reverse, neutral, 3rd, 1st/2nd) I hit the
gas at a casual pace and notice that it stays in first....it never goes into
2nd!!! 1st gear revs to 4000...so I put the shifter into 3rd and it shifts
rough. I think the problem only happens when the vehicle is hot, I haven't
tried it cold. I have checked the fluid...its good. I haven't done
anything to any transmission equipment. I bought it cheap about a year ago
with 93k miles. Any help?
Thanks

Someone may have fixed it. The two to one shift is dangerous:
