When I stick my finger in on all sides I pick up decenlty large amount of
sludge.

I think I would just get the CCV fixed to stop the sludge build up and
keep an eye on the shape of the oil when changing it on the regular
intervals. That Mobile 1 should clean it out pretty good and not too
fast and the oil should stop hitting the air filter.

When you pull the CCV grommet, if the valve cover is plugged with sludge
back there, then you might want to remove the cover and do a physical
clean.
