93 ZJ V8 - "clung" sound and vibration

Hi Folks,

Please give me a hand in analysing this problem.

1, The symptom never happen when the driving speed is less than 80 km/h,
2, The symptom will be triggered when driving @ 80km/h over a slightly
uneven road (bridge deck etc.),
3, The sympton is a series of "clung" sound that varies in direct
proportion to the driving speed. i.e. The slower the speed the less frequent
is the "clung",
4, The Jeep also seems to get pull to the right hand side of the road, (I
need to steer it back)
4, The "clung" sound (and vibration) is similar to driving over a road
repair steel plate at the 1st second. The only different is that this
"clung" is continuous until the Jeep stops.
5, When the symptom appears, It makes no different if I shift the gear
into neutral.
6, After the Jeep come to a stop (the engine is still running), I can
drive away immediately without the "clung",
7, Yet, the symptom will come back if the condition outlined in item 2 is
met,

My mechanic confirmed that all fluid levels are OK. A visual check, after
hoisting it, found nothing.

2 months ago, the U-joint was replaced. Last month, the only service was
replacing the front tires with the original spare tires from my 2 93ZJs.
(same brand and model tires)

Thanks in advance for your comment.

Paul

A pull to one side or the other indicates something in
the front axle or steering. Worn ball joint, damaged
drag link, track bar, antisway bar, loose bolts, etc.

Now when I say loose bolts, these will not feel loose to
someone trying to move the axle by hand... unless that
person can put 3-4,000 lbs of force on the axle like your
ZJ can. The only way to know if a bolt moved is to clean
them, apply a little paint or fingernail polish, let it
dry, then test drive. Checking the paint for cracks will
tell you what moved.

Here is a possiblity though. It can cause some odd
steering behaviour including a pulling feeling. Although
it tends to cause squeeks and groans followed by one huge
KLONK as the clamp fails.

Check the part numbers for your V8, I'm not sure the bars
were the same dimension.
