You don't need help, you sound like you know the problem. Since the
fan is ------ing coolant everywhere it's probably throwing some on to
the base of the thermostat housing.

Sounds like new waterpump time to me?

mebby, mebby not.

I'd be checking the radiator supply and return hoses. If they are
still the original it is likely they are leaking. Also watch the
heater hoses. These hoses tend to get soft and balloon. A water
pump leak is more likely to be pouring out the drive shaft and down
the engine.

For the money, I'd start with hoses. Dry the leak with paper towel
then check back for more leaks. Squeezing the upper hose will put
a bit more pressure in the system and usually will show you the leak.

When you replace the hoses use new worm style clamps, the original
pressure clamps are not considered reusable. Yea, they might work
but the service guide says to trash them.

"DING, DING!" sure enough the heater hose leading into the thermostat housing

Little clarification.. pump drive shaft. And the upper hose where
it clamps to the thermostat was the first leak I ran into. Opened the
hood and the little bugger pissed all over my good shirt. I don't mind
fixing the jeep, but when it pisses on me, well, that's just not right. :]

The fan pulls coolant from areas in front of it, like the radiator it's
self. At least crawl under it and look up at the weep hole on the shaft to
confirm it's the water pump before replacing it also:

Glad the info helped. Save yourself future pain by replacing all the hoses now.

You can capture most of the coolant by siphoning off the radiator or by using
a hose that just fits the drain plug and draining into a clean bucket. I just use
the opportunity to replace coolant.

Did the '93 ZJ have those darned plastic tanks for the radiator like the
later ZJ's? They can split and spray fine streams of water in enough
places to make it very tough to see that it is the radiator.

You betcha! That's not the OPs problem but I had to replace my

What fits nicely if you have the fancy A/C and transmission cooler,
etc.? I got mine replaced cheaply, but next time would rather not stay
with plastic.

I honestly don't know? I had it done and the shop supplied the
radiator, one they recommended. It has one less row of tubes but the
tubes are much larger than the original if that's any clue? It's made
for the vehicle and drops right in. I'm cool now in the worst Phoenix
sunshine can do to me (110+F), slogging through sand washes, towing,
etc. so it must be working?
