Taking my daughter's 35c out of her 95 YJ this weekend, she is putting a
ford 9" in, and 4.88 gears, and an Advanced Adaptor HD SYE my question is
about lining it up and drive shaft. From all the reading I did last night,
it looks like if you put the pinion in peralel with T case then you use a
standard drive shaft, and if you aim pinion at T case you then use a double
cardon CV drive shaft. Either way she needs a new drive shaft, so what is
the prefered way to do this. Don't want to weld on the perches, have shaft
made up, hook everything up and have the first person look at it and say why
did you do it like that?

If she has a tall lift, a CV driveshaft is the way to go since it can better
handle the angles and it'll run smoother. Technically, your descriptions of
how to set up the angles are right on. From a practical sense, set the
pinion angle 2-3 degrees under that of the CV driveshaft, not pointed
straight up the driveshaft towards the t-case. This compensates for the
rear axle's axle wrap (the pinion shaft will jump up several degree) during
acceleration so the pinion won't point too high under acceleration and cause
vibrations.

Hi Greg, you're correct about aiming toward the pinion with an SYE setup.
To do this on the stock axle, you can use degree shims on the spring
perches:

But since you are swapping in the 9" you will be doing perch mods. Test fit
the axle with the spring perches clamped to the leaf spring. Rotate the axle
as necessary and begin welding. This would be a good time to decide if you
want to do a spring over axle (SOA) setup for more lift... of coarse you
would have to do the front axle as well.
P.S. don't forget to relocate your shock perches as well.
