Re: 89 xj steering sloppy
I grab the center of the steering wheel in one hand, engine
running, parked and rock it back and forth, if the whole car bounces
back and forth the track bar needs replacing. Then lay down under the
front end in a position where you can see the steering shaft leading to
the box and pitman arm and have some move the steering slowly back so
you may see if the looseness is in the box, or tie rod ends:

Re: 89 xj steering sloppy
MY CJ7 was down right dangerous on the highway when I first got it the
steering was so sloppy. I literally had to change every part 'except'
the steering box.
You really need to get down under while someone turns the wheel to see
where all the loose parts are.
