87 YJ hard to get started
 

After the awesome advice I got on my last post.....let's try it again. My
YJ is running great once it gets started and idles for 15 minutes. It
takes me about 10 minutes of cranking to get it started though. Any idea
why it takes so much to get it going???

Have you checked -- before you crank it much -- to see if fuel is getting
to the carb?

Fuel filter is improperly installed.

Normally that means your gas filter is in upside down if it is a 258
engine.

The gas filter has 2 outlets. The center outlet goes to the carb and
the top outlet goes to the return line. If this return line isn't at
the top, gas syphons back to the tank as it sits. This filter setup is
to stop vapor lock.

If the filter is right, then I would suspect a pinhole leak in the line
between the pump and the tank. They are suction lines so a leak might
only just show as a stain on the line usually where it joints the rubber
parts to the steel parts. It has to get really bad to drip, but it will
still let air in when it sits causing a hard start.
