87 xj stalling after it hits running tempature
My 87 xj wagoneer 4.0l, Dies after it reaches running temp. Then it won`t
start till its cooled down. I replaced the following: fuel
pump,coil,cap,rotor,wires,belt,thermostat,hoses,wa ter pump,fuel filter,all
fuses inside and outin engine. Does anybody have any ideal what causing her
to die?? thanks!

failure due to heat is usually electrics. If it was a 93 I'd
suspect the CPS sensor. If your 87 has one then that's probably the
doodad.

Re: 87 xj stalling after it hits running tempature
I would suspect a bad connection on the crankshaft position sensor or a
dead body ground.
The CPS's plug and socket are located just above the manifold on our 88
and are in a heat soak position. I use a spray contact cleaner on them
and normally that fixes it. If not, it might need to be replaced. It
is located at the top edge of the bell housing and is difficult to get
at.
I also had that stalling when hot issue and had to wait for a restart
and in my case it was a rotted ground strap that runs from the rear of
the engine to the firewall. When cold it would steal a ground, then up
and die.
