4WD light
My 4WD light will not go out on my 90YJ, the vacuum lines from the transfer
case have been blown out with a air gun. What causes the light to light. Thanks in advance for any advice. Scott 90YJ |
Re: 4WD light
I 'think' the switch is on the firewall with only one vacuum line going
to it. It has one vacuum line attached to it. Two wires come out of the bottom. One is a ground, the other goes to the dash. More then likely, the switch is bad, but you might want to make sure it has a good ground. My brother and I both have the same problem. It does not intefer with the operation of the 4-wd system. |

Re: 4WD light
The swtich for the light on a '90 is on the firewall, in '91 the switch
is moved to the actuator on the axle. The older style has 3 vacumn lines on the actuator, the newer style has 2 vac lines and 1 wire. The older style is triggered off manifold vac when the axle is physically locked. I generally find that more often the switch is good, but that you are likely to have the axle stuck in the engaged position. This is NOT the same as stuck in 4wd since the transfer case goes to 2wd. You can check things out by pulling the line off the axle and checking to see if the yellow and green lines have alternating vac when you shift between 2wd & 4wd. Don't be surprised if either a vac line to the transfer case or the vac switch on the transfer case are bad. $35 and $16 to fix.
