4.0 oil leak underside of exh. manifold
Group:
I'm stumped on this one. I have a fresh rebuilt 4.0 that just
started leaking oil after 3000 miles. It shows up on the underside of
the exhaust manifold. When cold you don't notice, but as soon as it
heats up, it smokes from under the hood. Really gets your attention!.
The right side is dry and clean. What could possibly be leaking on
the left side?

Hi Randy,
There is no oil pressure that goes through the head gasket so the
only thing it may be is the valve cover gasket. Oops there is an oil
sending switch that may be leaking at the at the left rear corner of
head, on a very few models that I can't remember which, nor reason why.

hmm...
As Bill says, check the valve cover. I'd be tempted to remove the
air box and have a direct look at the side after a run.
It could even be (remote, but possible) that the leak is at the front
of your oil pan or timing chain cover/seal and being blown back by the
fan.
