Maxxis is a brand name for Cheng Shin (traditionally known as "Cheng
*****", thus their need for a new brand name for their "premium" tires).
Maxxis tires generally have good traction but wear quickly. That said,
it probably wears no more quickly than any other aggressive knobby.
