2nd Liberty - 3rd Jeep - 4th Chrysler
6 years...
1 Wrangler 4.0L SE baby forced sale Dodge Ram for me '02 Jeep Liberty for her Just sold my Ram for a diesel - fuel prices forced sale. 70 miles a day! Collison in the Liberty this last week. A car lost control, crossed the center median and hit the liberty head on. Wife, Child + other 5 year old all fine. The liberty is *not*..... I am amazed and very thankful that no one was hurt. Yesterday - signed on a '03 Liberty as a replacement. So...Liberty is not a real Jeep? Who cares...... The most important thing for me is keeping my family safe. The liberty proved that it can - I do not think a Wrangler would fair well. I do not pretend that it will ever mud axle deep - or climb rocks. If the carpark at the local Walmart is icey/snowy - that will be the most offroading it will do. I would not take it off-road anyway...on road driving is enough excitement and danger for this Jeep. -- gp |

Congrat's on the history of Jeepdom. I've owned 1 CJ5 (a 'mutt' of a car), 1 Wrangler, and 1 cherokee. I just sold the cherokee because the poor thing was being used as a commuter car and both she and I were unhappy. I bought a .... (ford) But, most importantly, I'm glad to hear your family is safe. Re: 2nd Liberty - 3rd Jeep - 4th Chrysler
I am also loyal to the Jeep line. I bought my lady a 02 Liberty, 2WD and
devoid of the nice options, just power windows and cruise. Then I found a '98 TJ. I previously had a VW rag top and sold it for the Wrangler. Not everywhere has the places to go offroading but the Wrangler is IMHO the ultimate ragtop. The highest elevation in Mississippi is 830 feet....not even close to where I live. Last Wednesday I bought her an '03 Liberty with all the nice options, 4WD, CD, sunroof, same color and still a Sport (We do not like the Limited with the flares painted the same color as the body.) I know many of the group here have Wranglers and/or Cherokees. That's cool, but I think there's enough room for Libertys in the world. Since the name of the group lends itself more to the Wrangler, maybe a group is needed for the SUV side of the house. I don't consider my TJ a SUV, to me it is a Special Utility Truck, that can't carry much more than people. I enjoy the group but dislike those who have to disrespect anyone who doesn't own their style vehicle. It begins to sound like history from the '60s.............I have a dream that one day little Wranglers and little Libertys will stand side by side as one and join hands with the Cherokee to make a better tomorrow. As I was buying the '03 I asked the owner of the dealership about Scramblers and new things coming out. He told me as far as he knew the only change to the line for the next few years is the addition of a third seat option to the GC. Glad to hear all made it though the head-no OK.
Sounds like a mini van may be a better choice for you, seeing gas mileage is a factor. Re: 2nd Liberty - 3rd Jeep - 4th Chrysler
But Bill, isn't a Liberty a type of mini-van?
