If you plan on keeping the vehicle for several years, I would consider
modifying the offending metal plate. Doubtful it actually serves any
purpose other than to impress the uninitiated if they peek underneath
before buying!

it's apparent that the chrysler jeep engineers could care less about oil
spillage on the ground and that getting into water tables i have a zero
tolerance for that myself
and jsut wait untill you see the filter on a dodge nitro v6 expect 1 hour
just for the oil filter removal
