Cough up the FM mod with an ipod. Got to pay if you want to play kind of
thing.

Only other option is an tape player connection for the mp3 player. That i
know of anyway.

Ipod really is the best. My sister has one, with the FM mod. Can't go wrong.
Esp when you have approx 4,000 MP3's.Use it as a hard drive too. 40gig is
the standard I believe. Haven't checked in a while.

Guess those guys at RIAA don't have this problem in the limo. ;-)

I'm sure you know this but make sure u are using CD R and not CD RW, as this
can be a big deal.

You could buy a new head unit if you like it but if you like your current
system and have a bunch of MP3's and can get a snazzy ipod? Why not?

Lastly almost no one gets their stock head unit stolen..

Re: 2002 Wrangler Radio

You're talking about burned CDs that play in CD players,
not CDs with mp3s on them, correct?

I discovered in my 2002 TJ (same radio as described below)
that certain discs would play and certain discs would not.
Visually, the discs that did better were a darker green color
on the burned side as opposed to the CDRs that are more of the
plain silver color.

I don't have a real need for it and I haven't had the inclination
to do so, but I would recommend going to your local computer store
or office supply store and just buy one pack of every kind of CDR,
then burn one of each and test to see which brand does better.
Time consuming and expensive, but it would be interesting to see
what the differences are.

Another thing that I noticed is that on some of the CDRs, it will
only track to the first couple of songs. So if I go for a long ride,
I can start the CD from the beginning and it will play all the way
through, but if I try to skip a track, or if I hit a bump in the
road, sometimes the laser gets 'lost' and I have to retrack/restart
the CD from the beginning.

Yep ('05 model). I just put the disc in.

The trick is to burn a valid CD. That took me a few tries to get
right. Test the disc in a regular CD player first to avoid excess
trips outside and back to the computer. (Note: this is -not- illegal,
I paid for the music that I put on an expendable disc so that the
original won't be damaged)

Here are the steps, using my computer :

First rip the original disc
$ cdda2wav -vall cddb=0 -D2,0 -B -Owav
Obtain necessary privileges to write to the burner
$ su root
Burn the audio to the blank disc
# cdrecord -v dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 -dao -audio -useinfo -text -eject *.wav

Note that I have a Real Operating System on my computer
(http://www.debian.org/). If you need to obtain a Real OS to
create/copy cds check out http://www.knoppix.org/ or
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/. Both of those sites provide a CD image
you can boot with and not change anything on your hard drive (in other
words your MS Windows will be entirely unaffected and unaltered).
