Re: 2002 TJ-problem filling gas tank

The other thing there is a float ball in the tank fill neck at the bottom
where it enters the tank. When you fill the tank the ball rises up and the
back pressure shuts down the nozzle and it is used incase of roll over the
ball stops the gas from coming out the tank fill. It appears that you are
only getting the fuel in by way of the vent. If there are no pinched hoses
then your float ball is stuck due to the bouncing via shipping. If I was a
betting man you probably had less than a half tank when shipped. The only
fix for the ball is to remove the tank and the gas from the tank then tap
the neck at the base to free it. Once freed you can rock the tank back and
forth and listen if the ball moves freely. If not the tank needs to be
replaced.

Did you check to see if the drugs are hidden somewhere in the fuel
filling/venting system?
Just kidding..

Re: 2002 TJ-problem filling gas tank

Does Hawaii have those collars onthe pump nozzles?
Sometimes they can cause a problem. If they do try pulling the sleeve back
away from the opening in the filler neck to allow air to get in.
I know it's awkward but that was pretty common in CA when they were on the
pumps out there.

Re: 2002 TJ-problem filling gas tank

Eewww, think I'll just fill mine slowish! I have the same
problem on my '02 TJ and it does seem to help if I twist the
hose handle to the left during the fill.
