2002 Sahara Axle Question
I have a 2002 Jeep Sahara TJ (Wrangler) and am trying to determine
which rear axle it came with from the factory. I have read earlier posts regarding shape of the diff cover and it is definitely not round so I assumed it was a Dana 44. I then looked at the most recent specifications for the Wrangler on the Jeep web site and it states that for 2003 the Dana 44 is not available on the Sahara. For 2004 it looks like it is an available option. Does anyone know (or can point me to) the specifications for 2002 Jeep Wranglers and was the Dana 44 an available option for a Sahara in 2002? I also read somewhere that TJ's with the 30 inch tire package came with the Dana 44 in the rear, anyone know if this is true? It would make sense. This is a table for 2003 of data I found on the Jeep web site and as you can see (unless it is a mistake) the Dana 44 was not a standard feature or an option for Sahara's in 2003. 2003 Jeep GVWR, Towing, Suspension Model SE X SPORT SAHARA RUBICON Optional Package A N X D G U 3.07:1 Axle Ratio - - x x - - 3.73:1 Axle Ratio - - a a x - 4,450-Pound GVWR x x x x x - 4,550-Pound GVWR - - - - - x 4:1 Rock-Trac(TM) - - - - - x 4.11:1 Axle Ratio x x - - - x Command-Trac(R) x x x x x - Dana 30 Front Axle x x x x x - Dana 35 Rear Axle x x x x x - Dana 44-3 HD Rear Ax - - - a - x Dana M44/216MM FAxle - - - - - x |

I had been trying to figure out what exactly did I buy so I just recently went back to the dealer and asked them to print the build order for me to see which options the original owner had opted for. Dealer just simply put the VIN in his computer and out came a four page detailed print out of everything. You might just try with the local dealer. The other thing is, if you have Dana 44 at the back, you will have no ABS (lucky for me). TW |

aw, Bill, this link does not work anymore, at least not for me. I wanted to
get the scoop on my 2002 TJ, but I got this returned: Sorry your request cannot be fulfilled. The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. I then tried to root around their website and came up lame. Is there another way to get at this? Thanks, Excited and then disappointed Tomes "L.W.
