1997 Wrangler Problem....

Hello all. I recently had a Pro Comp Stage II 4 inch suspension lift
installed on my 1997 Wrangler. Now, when I accelerate, I feel a
bumping noise underneath my feet. It only happens upon innitial
acceleration and is worse when on an incline. I took it to my local
repair shop and they are stumped. They checked the u joints and they
were fine. They removed each drive shaft and the mechanic said with
the rear shaft removed, that he didn't feel the bumping anymore. It
did this a little before the lift kit but now it's really bad. It
seems worse when I turn left upon acceleration. Any idea's? Thanks in
advance.

Control arms, track bars/brackets? Even if they look tight, they may be
loose and move only under load. Always go back to what you changed just
before the problem started.

Re: 1997 Wrangler Problem....

The drive shaft is binding.

The lift has altered the angle of the pinion shaft relative to the angle of
the tcase uptput shaft. These two shafts need to be parallel, not pointed at
eash other. The corrective action is to lower the tcase (the parts should
have been included with the lift kit), or raise the pinion, or a combination
of the two.

Re: 1997 Wrangler Problem....

Did you install SYE and new drive shaft? That's pretty much the same
behavior mine had with a 2" lift before I lowered the transfer case.
It was always worse on an incline.

4" lift kits always seem to include a transfer case lowering kit, but
at that height, it's almost never adequate to get rid of the driveline
vibrations that result. Need a SYE and new driveline IMO (my thoughts
anyway). Would explain why it didn't seem to happen with the rear
shaft removed anyway.

Thanks everyone! Thanks for the emails too. I got it up on a lift today and we
think we can fix it for now by lowering the transfer case a bit more. I truly
appreciate all of your help. Thanks!
