You have a chain drive T-case that needs ATF.
Gear driven ones like my Dana 300 take gear oil.

I made that mistake... put 90w in. Found out it was the
wrong stuff before I put it into 4x4... no damage done.
I understand that it's the needle bearings that cook from
not light enough lube.
And 'real Jeeps'® have flathead fours...
