Dark Green with a smoother shell, I'll bet. Did it hiss at all? Did
you see a tail? Probably a Snapping variety.... They'll take your finger off in a heatbeat. Careful. One of them took a nice chunk out of the family dogs' nose when I was a kid..... For many species of turtle the first line of defense when picked up is to pee on you.
Its not pleasant. I spent some time working with Western Pond Turtles one summer... That's cool tho!
