Changing your own oil, as well as being quality time with the KJ, is just one less thing that someone else can screw up, because they are late for their break or their dog doesn't love them anymore etc.

An old mechanic friend of mine used a hammer to drive a screwdriver all the way through the side of the filter, then the screwdriver handle can be used to give the extra leverage needed to get the filter to turn.
He said "As a mechanic, I'd have to buy multiple different sizes of special wrenches for different filters, but the screwdriver and hammer method works on any filter and costs nothing".
