Mobile 1
Hi Everyone! New to this Forum...I have 06 Liberty with the 3.7 . I bought it new in 05..To date it has roughly 32000 km on it..( I drive a work truck throughout the week) I change my oil every 3 months...was using Mobile 1 5w30 but switched back to regular oil...my mechanic was telling me i was wasting my money..Im thinking of switching back to Mobile 1, but changing oil every 6 months instead of 3 months... Just wondering what you people think

I beleive in synthetics for engine longevity. I bite the bullet and change my oil every 3 months or 5000km but I know lots of people who do the extended drain interval you're talking about. My advice would be, if you are going to wait 6 months to change your oil, still replace the filter every 3 months and top off the oil. Also, I would use an Amsoil or WIX filter due to their ability to filter to 12 microns as opposed to the standard 20 microns. Happy Jeepin!

Re: Mobile 1
There are numerous advantages in using synthetics. Flow rate when cold, better cleaning properties with lack of sulfur content of conventional motor oils, ie less carbon build up .
As long as you use a good filter as mentioned previously, the extra dollars spent on synthetics ensure the best possible for you engine. You can safely go 6000 miles between changes, a filter change mid way would not hurt. In my KJ I run 10-w40 Mobile1 and Purolator or K&n filter.
I wish I would have used synthetic in my other small block chevy car. Has 60,000miles and one sticky lifter. Using Mobil 1 in it now and it is starting to pull the dirt out and lifter is now free. After 2000 miles in the SBC engine the oil is dirty so have to change it again. Looks like the cleaning properties are good with Mobil 1.

Hey Liberty TC you are right about the better flow rates when cold and superior additive package. On your SBC with the sticky lifter, I've had good luck using 3 Litres of synthetic oil with 1 1/2 to 2 Litres of Lucas oil additive to quiet down/free up sticky lifters, rings etc.

Re: Mobile 1
With the chevy SB I used synthetic with a small bottle of STP and put Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant & Injector Cleaner(Fuel Treatment) in the gas. Then gave it a good 250 mile run. That freed the lifter but I think I have a valve stem seal problem on on or two valves cause when you start it, blue smoke a bit.
Regarding the Liberty and elecroplasma it sounds like he drives the work truck during the week and the Liberty on the weekends. I am in the same situation and the KJ sits quite a bit and now use fuel stabilizer and the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube in there too. Because the fuel can be in the tank for 2 months the fuel stabilizer stops any gumming up. I do not over do the mixture just light additive, bit less than recommended, and take the KJ on the high way once a week for min 30 minutes. No engine likes to sit without a good run. City driving is hard on motors and to burn off the crap take the over drive off to keep it warmed up.

Re: Mobile 1
yes, mobil 1 is not that expensive anyways especially if you do the oil change yourself. Its worth it to use it for the extra protection it provides. Just think how much money you put into your vehicle in gasoline costs. An oil change is peanuts in comparison.
