Where to buy a JKU hardtop
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, but I suspect I will make many more. I just purchased my first ever jeep, I pick it up on Wednesday. It's a 2011 JKU Sport and comes only with the soft top.
I'm trying to find out the best way to acquire a hardtop. The dealer told me buying it through them will cost substantially more than buying it aftermarket, he wouldn't even tell me the price oddly enough. So, I took to the interwebs looking for a hardtop in Canada, ideally Ottawa, but have had no luck.
Does anyone know the best route for me to go?
Thanks!
Chris

Buy from the US. Even US Jeep dealers sell the hardtop for 1/2 the price we have to pay from our Canadian dealers.. Sad but true unfortunately.. Aftermarket would be from Besttop, again a US company..
Good Luck in your search..

Thanks for the info.
I just found a couple places that sell it for $2300 in the USA. I'll get it shipped to the ups store in ogdensburg and go pick it up. I was told they are made in the USA so ideally I wont have to pay any duties on the top. Having a hard time confiming this though.

Has any Canadian driven down to the USA to do this before? I have found all my answers, except one big one, I don't know what to expect for duty on the hardtop. I am unable to find out where Mopar manufactures it's freedom tops. I called and emailed Mopar as well as Chrysler Customer Service. I have a hard time believe I'm the first Canadian to take this action, given the price difference.
well you could always drive down there, stow the soft top and install the hard top and drive back-no duty, no declaration+no tax to pay.
I saw your ad looking for a hard top on kijiji-keep at it you'll find one.

You would be surprised what they know. Remember they photograph your vehicle as you go through the border. The only thing you pay at the border is HST. Young lady in our Jeep club pick one up from a US dealer in September..
I completely agree. If walmart and bestbuy have your face on camera, you can bet that the border crossings have that, and more... Just not work the risk for me personally as I do like to go to the usa for trips.
