Unlimited Rubicon

Hi. I'm buying a 2010 Rubicon but can't decide whether I should order it with a manual or automatic tranny. Both have their pro's and con's. The auto is only a 4 spd and robs
power but some say it's better for off roading. The manual is a 6 spd and should be better
for fuel economy and the Rubi comes with hill hold. I've heard the 6 spd shift is long, notchy and reverse is on the right. Just looking for suggestions from people who have them.

Don't know too much about the 2010 anything, too high for me..lol but Ruby is the way to go, the autom is by choice (I don't like them - as offroading I like to pick my gear) others will swear by them, plus I probably been driving to many trucks over the years from 5 to 18 gears, 2 sticks, so its natural. manual 6 speed I would think your 1st is going to be a little lower than most (great for offroading - crawling) Reverse being on the right side.. so where is it in what you been driving?? My 03 tj its on the right side. I am sure others will reply with their opinion too.

Yo! Feral Kid

Both are fun to drive, It all comes down up Do U do a lots of traffic, stop and go,
Both are good off-road, auto need a transmission cooler
If you modify ---bigger tires, etc--- U will need to reprogram the auto, easy to do with a reprogrammer (200.00)

Re: Unlimited Rubicon

My JKU is auto, no issues so far. Shopping for the second Jeep for the driveway, and I have hurt my head thinking auto or stick, this will be my DD, and yet 401 traffic is a part of my life Monday to Friday :(

It boils down to personal preference and what YOU want to do with the Jeep.

The 4-speed auto has the over heating issue, I've heard of guys complaing the 6-speed pops out of first. Hello, Warranty Mr Jeep/Fiat who ever they are.

Either way you will win, since you'll be driving a Jeep...by the sound of it a Rubi to boot.

Good luck, and remeber to wave

The pro's and con's of the decision are yours since your paying for it. Personally I love manuals and if one of our wonderful mods would ever get another WJ and finish putting a manual into it I'll be following suit as soon as he's worked out all the bugs. lol

Re: Unlimited Rubicon

Picked up my JK Rubicon Unlimited in june.. manual.. like most have said, its really up to you. The manual however seemed like a better choice for me as I like to be in control and choose my own gears. Its also better on the gas, not like you're buying one for the economy or anything but it still helps. I'm able to keep my avg consumption to around 13.5 L/100km. Mix of a lot of city and some hwy. I honestly dont mind the stop and go of the manual. You just get used to it. Plus... you really get the full jeep feeling with the manual in my opinion. GOOD LUCK! By the way.. deal it out!!! i got mine for $31,500 + txs with the tow pkg, dual tops and leather. Of course that included the Chrysler incentives..downside.. had to wait 3 months before it was delivered!!

I appreciate all the info and help. Won't be getting the JK till the end of August when the F-150 goes back to the dealer.
