i know some newer synthetics claim you can go further between oil changes, but i would still change it every 5,000 if it was my rig. especially if you work it hard. this is just my opinion though... my logic says the cleaner the oil, the cleaner the engine, the better it works...

No worries Bud.. You will be fine.. Look at your maintenance schedule, oil change every 10,000KLM with regular oil and filter. With semi syn you just got a little more protection. We have 6 Chrysler products all on 10,000klm oil change intervals. There is absolutely no reason to change oil sooner then factory spec unless the vehicle sees very little use and/or used on very short drives where the engine doesn't heat up enough to evaporate condensation/moisture in the oil..

We run Amsoil in 2 of the Jeeps and regular oil in all the other vehicles.

i have been running my 2010 JKU with regular oil every 10K and no issues in performace... I run mostly highway... however do the occasional offroad... I'm not over 130K and have it running well... same fuel economy as when almost new... I have run Synthetic through twice... at 50K and again at 100K... just for giggles... but didn't notice any differences.

I just read an article in a jeep magazine at my dealer regarding regular and synthetic oil.
They suggest either oil for the jeep, and even flip flopping from one to the other won't hurt occasionally - just don't do it too often. However if you prefer to use synthetic, then stick with it as the benefits it provides will only then be realized.

My work van gets a change about every 30,000KM. It has 242,000KM on the odometer and runs like nearly new.
That being said, it is a good idea to try to stick to 5000KM changes because the oil will remain cleaner. That is very important. The oil itself does not break down so it will provide lubrication when it is old BUT the additives do deplete and, it gets dirty. Not only does the oil have to lubricate but it also has to clean the engine. This is what makes the oil dirty (it cleans the engine and carries away the gunk, becoming dirty itself). If it is already dirty it can't pick up as much of the gunk so it begins to build up in the engine. The additives in the oil act as detergents, some help the gaskets stay younger longer and they help keep the oil's physical properties more consistent with change in temperature. Specifically viscosity, or in other words, how "thick" it is. So when they deplete out of the oil, so do all the benefits that they provide.
Synthetics oils are just that, synthetically made, so they are made just plain better. They have a smaller molecular structure so they flow better when cold. This is why synthetics have more consistent physical properties with temperature change. They flow better which means they lubricate better. This also makes them clean the engine better which is why you can go longer on an oil change. Also, because synthetics are man-made they can be made with specific properties for specific applications. When conventional oil is pulled from the ground, it kinda is what it is.

So what does this all mean? Unless you have a balanced and blueprinted high performance engine in your Jeep, you don't NEED synthetic. The average build or stock engine built by Chrysler will be fine with conventional oil. But, synthetics are simply better than conventional so you can usually extend your engine's life when using synthetics.
So changing your oil every 10,000KM won't necessarily damage or wreck your engine, the oil will still lubricate. BUT, changing every 5000KM is BEST because it keeps your oil cleaner which help keep your engine cleaner which helps extend your engines life.

Another note, some say that the natural minerals that are only in conventional oil are better for the gaskets. That is the reason for going back and forth between conventional and synthetic. Use synthetic in the winter for better oil viscosity in the cold and use conventional in the summer for the benefits of the natural minerals. NEVER mix the two though. They don't mix together and this is very bad news for your engine! Some semi-synthetics can be mixed with conventional but i wouldn't do that myself in my engine, just to play it safe.
