I was debating the Rubicon vs Sahara, for most the Sahara will be plenty enough. However if I had the money I would've got the Rubicon. We'll see how the Sahara hold up, taking it to the Mont-Tremblant area this week-end. My first week-end with the JEEP and I'm so %$#%$# excited!!

OK...I MIGHT be taking my Wrangler a little 'off-the-beaten-track'...but not like the dedicated OFF-ROADERS in THIS video!!!

They're driving Rubicons...I can't imagine a Sahara with its smaller suspension travel, lack of 'locking diffs' etc...doing what these Jeeps do...

However, as I say...I ordered a Sahara...creature comforts abound...a real 'dual-purpose' Jeep...and, for the kind of middling occasional off-roading I'm going to do, the Sahara (or even a Sport) would do just fine...

It's kind of an apples vs oranges debate...

I don't need the hyper-capabilities of the Rubicon...the extra weight and complexity of the locking diffs and detachable roll-bar...so, Sahara is is...at least for me...

Driving a Rubicon and never going heavy-duty off-roading would be a waste...unless you just want that badge that says <I CAN GO ANYWHERE>...

cheers,

Saharaguy

Curious, be it Sahara, Rubicon or Sport, who EVER bought a Jeep for it's gas mileage?

Who would buy a Jeep for its gas mileage??? Dunno...maybe back then, if you had a little CJ-7...the little engine MIGHT be attractive for 'grocery-getting' in the winter...

But...certainly not now...since all Wranglers have the SAME engine...the 3.6...and, allowing for weight differerences between the Rubicons/Unlimiteds/Saharas/Sports...they all have 'not-bad' mileage (for two ton plus trucks!)...and, they're all reasonably quick...

Perhaps someone buying a 'Compass' or some 'not-quite-Jeep' - Jeep...well, maybe THEY'D buy it for the gas mileage...but, that doesn't count...

Real Jeeps are Wranglers.

Rubi is better if u don't plan on going bigger then 35's. U can then keep most of your stock driveline. If u are going bigger then 35's or on 35's and going hardcore, then u have to upgrade the driveline on the rubi and u paid for all that stuff for nothing. Just a note to saharaguy and his video......they are not all rubi's.....i see saharas and x's in that video. Your sahara would go through that trail like nothing. It has the same suspension and wheel travel as a rubi, u just don't have disconects.....they cost about $75-100 for manual 20sec to pull the pin ones. Your sahara will go just about anywhere a rubi will.....remember we didn't always have rubi's and run all the same trails.......they just make it easier. If u are going to buy a jeep mainly to offroad buy the rubi, if u are buying to cruise around with the top down and doors off and enjoy the jeep thing and go out wheelin a couple times a year, then go with an x or sahara. If money is not an object and u can afford it, buy the rubi, u will wish u did after.

hi , new member,

i drove a 2010 rubi 2 door, 2011 sahara 2 door and a 2011 sahara unlimted and sorta looked at a 2012 sport unlimited ( never drove ). i loved the off road , go anywhere idea in the rubi but didnt like the interior or ride when comparing it to the 2 saharas i drove. im not one to take it over the tallest mountain i can find, but i do hike, camp and backpack. ive been on a few log roads and trails already and i love my sahara unlimited. i would say the peace of mind in the back country with a rubicon is nice, but for me .....ahhhh i got a good deal on a new 2011 sahara! currently getting 10.7L/100km average too !!

I keep reading how the rubicon is not worth the extra money if you don't off road or only go every once and awhile. I wuld like a better reason then it's only for wheeling people.
Not everyone who buys a jk is going to drive it off road. Some people want to just have a nice driver with 35's or 33's. Which people should inform the future jk owner that if you plan on going with bigger tires down the road the rubi is the way to go since you get the better front axle and 4:10's.

Next is the myth that rub icons get worse gas milage then a sahara. bULSH*T.
My rubicon gets the same if not better gas milage then my wifes saraha and I'm running 35" tires.

That's my rant for now. I just want to see people give more accurate info on these jeeps. I was told a sahara would be good enuf for me but once i wanted 35's I traded it in for a rubi.

Incase your wondering where my info comes from. My wife has a jku sahara and i own a jku rubi. Before my rubi i had a jku sahara.
Thanks dear for share the information...............
