Default Rodent chewing up my wires

I've got a rodent problem in my brand new jeep wrangler. It chewed up my wires, insulator, as well as the block heater. It's just my luck that the extended warranty I bought would not cover it.

Just wondering if anyone ever had a similar problem. Or if you know of a way to prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

what type of rodent are you talking about? I see that you are in toronto and assume you park outside like I do.

I would head to Home Depot and go into their pest control aisle and find something that will divert and trap the little buggers.

Yes, I park outside. I have no idea what kind of rodent though. I'm guessing it's squirrels. I've also done some researching after posting here and learned that moth ***** would do the trick.

That's just terrible! As if a guy doesn't have enough troubles every day when things are going right eh?
I'm wondering if it is squirrels, as they aren't well known for doing this sort of thing. However a more likely candidate (at least around here anyway) would be a wood rat, or as we call them pack rat. If you are familiar with the common "Victor" mouse trap - a slat of wood with the dual springs and arm that folds back.....well anyway they do make a larger version of this same trap - ya it's called a rat trap. They aren't too expensive, maybe a few dollars. I think "HomeHardware" has them. Put a slice of aromatic apple on it for bait. That should do the trick.

My husband stores his vette all winter and puts a bar of Irish Spring soap and a couple of dryer sheets inside....apparently mice and such dont like it.....worth a try, worst case you'll have a great smelling Jeep....

That's a good idea! I was storing my truck outside under a roof with everything closed up. After some months I went into it and it actually stank in there - God only knows. So I cracked the two windows a bit and then all the spiders & bugs moved in. I'm allergic to the chemicals in "Febreze".

Sorry to hear, had a similar issue with my Civic when I had it....but in the winter, I would park at work out back, and the little mothers (squirles) got under my hood cuz it was warm and did all kind of damage to a wire harness.

I stopped parking there, realize you might not be able to do that, but anything that smells bad, moth *****, black pepper, cycan pepper, 'kridder ridder' from home depot, or thje irish spring soap is nice should **** them off. I would use what ever is takes, and plenlty of it!!!

Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions. I actually got a bottle of Chemfree Critter Ridder from Home Depot, put them into little pouches and place them under the hood. It seems to have done the trick.

Wish I had read debsred11's irish spring soap post before I went out and bought it though. :)
